Regional Xcel Championships Update

The Administrative Committee met on Wednesday to discuss the Xcel Regional Championship format due to last year’s numbers and the 4-day meet.

Please keep in mind that this was never the idea of the regional committee to make this a 4 day meet. While many points of view were brought to the table, i.e. keeping or removing the Silver Division,  the consensus of the committee was to keep the Silver Division and add a second weekend and to include Level 6 to make the meet financially feasible for meet hosts.  We are hoping this will allow for a successful meet that is 2 – 3 days and also allow for growth, if needed.

The structure of the championship will be as follows:

  • May 1-3, 2020  Xcel Regionals (Gold Platinum and Diamond)
  • May 15-17, 2020 Xcel Regionals (Silver and Level 6)

The Xcel qualifying scores will remain the same as last year.  Level 6 will be the same as the Level 7 qualifying score - 35.000 AA.

There will be no petitioning for Xcel or Level 7.

As always, we appreciate receiving everyone’s input and the committee does our best to consider all opinions.

The Deadline for Xcel bid submission is now September 14, 2019.
The new Xcel Regional Bid Forms are below:

IMPORTANT - Athletes that are 18-years of age or older must be Safe Sport Certified (U110) to Compete the Remainder of Season

If you have a Level 9/10 regional qualifier that is, or will be, 18 years old at Level 9 Easterns (May 10th) and/or JO Nationals (May 17th) please read the following very carefully:

The U.S. Center for Safe Sport recently implemented a new requirement that all athletes that are 18-years of age or older must be Safe Sport Certified (U110) to be in the field of play. If you have a gymnast that falls within this criteria, please have her complete the ONLINE Safe Sport Certification Course immediately. Any athlete found not to be in compliance with this request will not be permitted to compete at Level 9 Easterns or Level 10 JO Nationals. It is highly recommend that you have your qualified athlete complete the course prior to Level 9/10 Regionals. The U110 course is free of charge to all USA Gymnastics members.

Region 5 was just made aware of this request today, so we hope you can appreciate the urgency of this matter and will strongly encourage your athletes to act on it immediately. Here is the official statement from USA Gymnastics:

A U.S. Center for SafeSport policy update for all adult athletes (18+)

posted on 03/19/2019

Every USA Gymnastics athlete member who is 18 years of age or older is impacted by the U.S. Center for SafeSport's recent update to its education policy, in accordance with federal law.

The U.S. Center for SafeSport mandates the SafeSport training requirements for all national governing bodies, including USA Gymnastics. The center requires all adult professional members of USA Gymnastics to complete the U110: SafeSport Course. The Center's policy changes and the specific structure of USA Gymnastics requires that adult athlete members now must also complete this training.

Effective immediately, all USA Gymnastics adult (18+) athlete members are required to complete the U110: SafeSport Course. The U.S. Center for SafeSport's deadline for athlete compliance is March 23, 2019.

The course is free and takes approximately 90 minutes to complete. USA Gymnastics has developed step-by-step instructions to help you to access and take the course. Click here for the instructions

Victims/survivors of any type of abuse may qualify, on a case-by-case basis, for an exemption from this education and training policy. Athletes may make their requests directly with the U.S. Center for SafeSport at

The Center's goal is to increase awareness of athlete safety, not only with you as an athlete member of USA Gymnastics, but also athletes in all amateur sports and affiliated organizations. The U.S. Center for SafeSport course is an important educational tool toward building a strong community effort for safety. Increasing awareness with you, our athletes, is a critical step in protecting you and the people around you.

If you need assistance in registering for the course, please contact the Member Services Department at 800.345.4719 or via email at

We thank you in advance for completing the course by the deadline of March 23, 2019, and we hope this course will be a beneficial part of your continued safe sport education.
