Programs
Our
goal is to make each participant’s experience the best it can be.
We want your interaction with GBGC to be one that you want to tell
your friends and family about. Our focus is SAFETY
& FUN!
Our
mission is to play a valuable role
in the development of children by encouraging teamwork and self
discipline, to assist in their preparation for life’s challenges and to
foster increased self esteem in a motivating and safe atmosphere.
Gymnastics
involves skill repetition which is necessary for students to master
different movements and progressions presented to them in class.
The frequency of attendance and duration of time spent on any sport
or activity will greatly effect one’s progress.
Year round participation is recommended to foster continuous
improvement.
The
lessons learned in gymnastics class can help pave the way to a child’s
success. While high level
gymnastics is available in our program, about 90% are enrolled in
recreational gymnastics. We
encourage a positive learning environment for all students at every level.
We encourage parents to be patient and supportive of their
child’s progress.
PRE-SCHOOL GYMNASTICS
Our
pre-school curriculum focuses on exploration, basic motor skill
development and coordination.
POLLYWOGS
is a class for crawling to 2 years and requires participation with a
parent/guardian.
TADPOLES
is for 2-3 year olds and also requires participation with a
parent/caretaker.
Three-year-olds who have never taken gymnastics are recommended to
take this class first.
LEAP
FROGS is for 3-5 year olds who can participate independent of their
parent/guardian.
This class will emphasize creative movement, warm up, motor skill
development and introduction to beginning gymnastics.
Working with other children and following instructions through
games and movement will be taught and encouraged.
Participants must be fully potty trained.
Any student who has not yet reached his/her 5th birthday
must enroll for this class.
ADDITIONAL DAYTIME PROGRAMS
Home
school class offers not only exposure to gymnastics but the physical
activity that every child needs.
This class will help develop coordination and agility as well as
basic gymnastics.
SCHOOL-AGED RECREATIONAL
PROGRAM
Level I, II, III
We have incorporated
the “Fun & Fit Gymnastics Program” into our school aged
curriculum. All students
begin with the level I curriculum. Each
student will receive a poster to hang at home for the level that he/she is
currently training. During
the 5th week of the session, the student will receive stars for
the skills they have achieved to put on the poster.
Putting stars on the poster can become an exciting family event.
Once all skills have been achieved, the student gets his/her picture taken
with the coach and will receive the poster for the next level at
registration time. Once a
gymnast has passed all level 3 skills, she will then be invited to join
our competitive program. For
those not interested in competition, they may continue working on new
levels in recreational classes.
While the student has
a poster at home, the gym has a card on file to track each student’s
progress too. When a child moves to a different class or misses a session,
the card is transferred to the new instructor.
All students will be
working on a predetermined set of skills and sequences on each event.
Each new skill builds on a prior skill that has been attained.
While some skills are mastered easily others take much practice.
The student is introduced to gymnastics through proper warm up,
conditioning, flexibility and basic skills on all four women’s events,
vault, uneven bars, beam and floor exercise.
BOYS GYMNASTICS
Boys gymnastics will
begin to focus on the strength and skills required in men’s gymnastics.
While our pre-school program and level I will remain co-ed, we also
offer a boys intermediate and advanced program.
TUMBLING
PROGRAM
This one hour class is
designed for cheerleaders or those who need to incorporate acrobatics into
other activities such as dance, wrestling or karate.
The focus will be on learning tumbling skills and improving the
strength and flexibility required to perform such skills.
WOMEN’S & MEN’S COMPETITIVE PROGRAM
This program follows a
more intense year-round training schedule with expectations spelled out in
the competitive program handbook. Participation requires a high level of
dedication to the sport of gymnastics and is by invitation only. Strength,
flexibility and technique will be emphasized along with concentrating on
perfection of basic skills and body positions. We offer men’s (currently
through class 4) & women’s competitive gymnastics (through level 10)
