Rule Changes

Rule changes effective at the American Classic/Challenge, March 22-24, 2002:

  1. The hold element on Beam is no longer a Special Requirement. (However, you will not be penalized if you do not do a hold element.)

  2. The low bar “B” element on Uneven Bars is no longer a Special Requirement. (However, you will not be penalized if you do a “B” element on the low bar.)

  3. Motion passes that a girl may have THREE optional tries in an effort to qualify for the American Classic/Challenge. *For Region VII, this means you can try at both Regional and National opportunities.

  4. A proposal to raise the 8.8 start value to a 9.0 DID NOT PASS. This proposal did pass the Women’s Technical Committee of the FIG, but did not pass the Executive Committee.

  5. Qualification Score
    33.5 – Jr. International
    34.5 – International

A Clarification, from the Elite Section of the R&P on page #112, IV, E: “If a National Level gymnast qualifies to the Challenge competition and then, within the same season, qualifies at the International level to the Classic competition, she may enter either the Challenge or the Classic, but not both.”

All other changes from the FIG will take effect May 1, 2002. We will go over these changes with you at the Classic. Remember, the Start Value remains at 8.8.
